World Cup 2010 – Analysis and Predictions
Based on historical data, no team from Europe has ever lifted the World Cup outside of Europe. A country from the host continent has gone on to win every World Cup except Brazil in 1958, when they won in Sweden. When the first World Cup was held on Asian soil in Korea and Japan in 2002, the ultimate winner was not an Asian country, but once again Brazil. Asian countries were not yet ready to win, although South Korea came close. These are the historical facts of the World Cup over the past 100 years. After eight years, do you think the African country is really ready to lift the World Cup on home soil? Fools are those who bet against history.
Our approach will be to bet on a South American country to lift the World Cup outside of Europe again, putting some money into an African country to make it happen for the first time in history.
Analysis of teams
Brazil win too often and their chances are quite low at 4.5 but still good. Some money has to go to them.
Argentina is a dark horse. Few people give them a chance because they are led by a certain eccentric Diego Maradona. They have some amazingly talented players at their disposal and I just feel like they will make all their critics eat their words by uniting through all their unwanted attention on Diego. It reminds me a bit of Italy in the last World Cup. The Italians had a lot of problems with team spirit, someone was dying and so on. However, they managed to use it as a bonding tool to bring the team together to play effective football and win the World Cup.
England are overrated as usual. Fabio Capello will only get them for now. History will not be kind to this talented bunch of players. Gerard, Rooney, Lampard, Terry will have a good World Cup, but again only to the semi-finals. I have a strange feeling that they will go to penalties again. Guess who won’t miss the decisive spot kick?
My glorious Portugal will go out in the first round this time. Too bad they’re in the Death group. They are too dependent on Ronaldo. I’m afraid Carlos is not Scolari this time. Anyway, apart from Ronaldo, the other players are all average.
I like African teams. This World Cup can only be theirs. During past World Cups, they have shown the world that they are talented, skilful and capable of upsetting the best. Think Roger Milla and the Indomitable Lions. Now with more high-profile players in Europe, and more importantly, better technical coaches hired and on home soil, this could be a World Cup where new ground is broken. The first African nation to lift the World Cup on home soil? It won’t be South Africa, not with players like Piennar. Real caliber players are in Ivory Coast and even Ghana. Players like Drogba, Toure, Kalou, Essien are great players with a lot of experience. They could make another big leap for African players.
As for the Asian teams, I think they’ve nailed it. This is neither their time nor place to put on another great show. Teams in 2002 underestimated their abilities. They won’t make the same mistakes again.
Spain. Sigh…. They have the lowest odds. As talented as they are, they will be short against the South Americans. Winning the European Championship is one thing. World Cup wins against Brazil and Argentina are next. Moreover, they are not in Europe. Good luck to them.
Germany and Italy? Their era is over. Check out their current leagues. It’s hard to imagine them coming out victorious outside of Europe.
