The Five Best Places to Visit in Rio De Janeiro Brazil
Want to know the best places to visit in Rio?
This is what you do if you are planning a vacation to Rio de Janeiro Brazil. You invest your hard-earned money in plane tickets and accommodation. You will have a limited amount of time in Rio. And you want to make sure that your vacation in Brazil is an unforgettable experience.
Choosing which places to visit in Rio can be a stressful experience. There is so much to do in this amazing city. I fully understand what you are facing. My vacation in Rio only lasted a week. After this experience, I lived in Brazil for 18 years.
My recommendations for the best places to visit in Rio.
1. Copacabana Beach
Copacabana Beach is one of the most famous beaches in Brazil. The nearly two-mile long sandy beach overlooks Guanabara Bay and offers spectacular views of Sugarloaf Mountain. A fort at each end of the beach provides tourists with an opportunity to learn a little more about the history of the city of Rio de Janeiro and the country of Brazil.
2. Sugarloaf Hill (Pao de Acucar)
Sugarloaf Hill is a quartz and granite peak that rises from the mouth of Guanabara Bay to a height of 396 meters. A cable car with glass panels takes you from Praia Vermelha (Red Beach) to Morro da Urca (Urca Hill) and from there to the top of the Sugar Loaf. The ride takes less than 20 minutes, but offers views of Rio you’ll never forget.
3. Maracana Stadium
Maracana Stadium is one of the largest football (soccer) stadiums in the world. It was the site of the 1950 World Cup final, when Brazil lost to Uruguay in front of a crowd of 199,954. What is more impressive than the stadium itself is the enthusiasm of the Brazilian soccer fans. Don’t just visit the stadium, visit the Maracana and watch a football match.
4. Tijuca National Park (Parque Nacional da Tijuca)
One of the things that makes Rio de Janeiro so beautiful is the vast amount of nature that is part of this large urban center. At nearly 4,000 acres, Tijuca National Park is the world’s largest urban forest surrounded by a city. Within minutes you can leave the vast concrete jungle of Rio and visit waterfalls, caves, lakes and other natural wonders.
5. Corcovado
Corcovado, meaning “hump” in Portuguese, is a 710-meter granite peak located in the Tijuca Florest. At the top is a 38-meter statue of Christ the Redeemer with arms outstretched towards the city of Rio. The statue was recently named one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. You can catch the electric train and go to the top. The observation deck allows you to get a breathtaking view of the city.
