How to Change Your State If You Are You in a Negative State?

Do you ever have one of those days when everything seems wrong and everyone around you is doing or saying something that upsets you?

Have you all been wondering why this is happening?

This is usually a change of state that has occurred. Let me explain this by telling you my recent incident.

I woke up especially early because in the area where I live a truck was backing up and one of those loud ‘I’m backing up beep’ horns went off. Obviously I didn’t sleep as well as I would have liked and I couldn’t go back. The birds were tweeting quite loudly which is something I normally like to hear. The interesting thing is that on this day I so enjoyed listening to their chirps…not a great start to the day.

I normally jump out of bed when I wake up and I always wake up naturally, not with an alarm. I immediately sit up to get the blood flowing and then jump into the kitchen to make myself a hot drink, usually hot water and lemon because it gets my day going.

On this particular day, I didn’t feel like I had the energy to get out of bed and do sit-ups, so I wrapped myself in my big fluffy robe and headed to the kitchen.

I wasn’t feeling very lively and thought I’d have a coffee to get me on standby. I made myself a delicious cup of hot coffee, took it to the table and turned on my laptop. Another ugly mistake! I put the coffee down and there was no pad under it, leaving a ring mark on the wood. (I really need to wax that table).

As you can imagine, my mood was dropping faster than a 50-year-old elephant in quicksand. It was definitely downhill, which is unusual for me, but it goes to show that it can happen to any of us when we least expect it.

I managed to log in and started reading my emails while enjoying my lovely hot cup of coffee. After deleting the spam, I got real emails. The first one was reminding me to leave feedback on Amazon for something I bought. The second was a receipt for paying £54.05 for something I said I didn’t want. I signed up for some free or other subscription and if I chose not to continue it would revert back to a paid subscription. Before I decided not to proceed, I followed their process and canceled my subscription and here I was in a sullen mood with an account I didn’t have.

Emails started flying back and forth about the cancellation and after several contacts and copies of the cancellation etc they agreed it was a ‘mistake’. By this time I was well and truly ‘all the time’ with myself.

Was I in good shape? No, I was in the ‘right old state’ and I don’t think right well, I think right wrong… and it can happen that easily. Shoulders slumped, body all twisted, head down to shoulders, short breaths because there is no room for fresh breath when my body is in a crumpled state. Yes, you know the look and feel, right?

When these events occur, it can become something that does not benefit you in any way. Your blood pressure will increase, your ability to focus on the good things in life, and your satisfaction with your standard of living will decrease.

I consider myself very lucky because I can notice these changes and get the hang of it pretty quickly and then change it. Not everyone realizes this and it can stay with you all day and get worse as the day progresses.

Once I implemented my status change, I put into action a plan to change my current status to a more favorable one. So I stretched my body to be tall again and it felt like a nylon cord was being pulled from the center of my head. My shoulders back, chest out and head up. I took a deep breath to get right into my lungs and let out an old used breath with nothing good left in it.

Then I took my cup of good coffee and went out to the terrace. I looked at the little green buds and tried to peek out of the heavy soil, I listened to the birds and thought how wonderful it was to hear them, I looked up at the sky and saw a bit of the sun working hard. while burning through the gray clouds for us all to shine. I watched the little insects scurry through the bushes and shrubs looking for breakfast and thought to myself “what a lucky lady I am”.

I am alive, healthy, and have so many opportunities at my fingertips. I have a wonderful family, lovely friends, a fluffy bathrobe and hot coffee – what more could anyone ask for. I stood on the terrace, took several deep breaths, inhaling quality air into my lungs and exhaling the toxic substances I had built up all morning. After I let it go, I went back to my room, finished my sessions and took a fantastic hot shower to wash away the rest of the bad state. Then I felt really good. Then that was supposed to be the start of my day.

If I didn’t change my state now, my day would be one disaster after another and I would be irritable and distressed. It doesn’t take much to change your state to a more desirable state where you feel at peace with yourself and have a good attitude. It really doesn’t matter if the email was sent by mistake; it depends on how you handle it.

If you find a bad condition coming up, or worse, a condition hanging over you from another day, acknowledge it and think about what it’s doing to you and everyone around you, then change it. Pull your attitude of gratitude back out of the bedside drawer and feel good. Your day will be 100% better if you don’t carry luggage all day.

I walked to my office that day, chatting to everyone on the way, smiling and talking cheerfully to the postman and the parking lot attendant – everything would have been so different if I had remained grumpy and as a result of the bad start. This in turn would impact others if I let it. This is completely unfair to the world around me.

The next time you feel “less than great,” may I ask you to notice it, think about what’s happening and why, and then think about what you can do to eliminate it. Instead of blaming others for the state you are in, why not look at what you are doing to change your state from good to bad and how easily you can bounce back and enjoy life.

Every moment of every day is special, its precious time that cannot be replaced. Use all your moments wisely and make the best of every day.
