The Best Sports Bars in London

Last year I made a splash over the pond when I moved from my beloved New York to London. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for London, and when the opportunity to work in London came up, I couldn’t turn it down.

There are many things I was looking forward to in London and of course all the museums and famous sights were high on the list, but finding a good sports bar in London was definitely a top priority. I’m a big sports fan, I love my American sports including American football and baseball, so a sports bar in London that showed American sports was a must. I also wanted to take up the British sports on offer, I decided to try cricket and always followed the English Premier League.

After researching the internet, it turns out that there are plenty of options for sports bars in London. The most famous and prominent one I came across was The Sports Cafe in Haymarket. I spoke to a few Londoners and it was definitely recommended so I thought I’d try it for American football first. The New England Patriots were playing the New York Jets, a pretty fierce rivalry, so this was a perfect game to watch at a bar for the atmosphere. Of course the sports cafe was showing it on the big screen and boy was I impressed with this sports bar. TV screens are dotted throughout the bar, the decor is dedicated to sport, even with a model F1 car, so you walk in knowing that if there’s going to be a big sporting event, it’s bound to be at this London bar.

A lot of American football fans were watching the game and it was great to have table service where we could sit down, enjoy the game and order lots of beer and some food. The menu is classic American, so lots of burgers, sandwiches and chicken wings! I also found out after talking to the staff here that this is indeed a 24/7 sports bar as they show live sports all night long if there is a big game on. For example, cricket fans flock here for Ashes matches between England and Australia, so if you’re partying and want to end a night in London with sport, then this is the place to go.

After a sports bar I was looking for something a little more local and authentic as this was definitely more of an American style sports bar. I spoke to a few colleagues from work and found out that there are a lot of traditional London pubs where sports are played.

By far the best I came across was the Three Kings in Kensington. This is another specialist sports bar in London but it’s in a huge pub with dedicated zones depending on what game is being played so you can have loads of rugby fans packed in the front room cheering on their team and then loads of football. fans in another area watching multiple screens. The atmosphere is electrifying with lots of singing and it has quickly become one of my favorite sports bars in London.

Some of the great sports bars in London include the Jetlag bar in central London, which has comfortable sofas and a nice relaxed atmosphere for watching the matches. I also really like The Roxy in London Bridge which doubles as a cinema in the evening so it’s a pretty cool place to watch rugby in particular. If you want a live atmosphere then The Clapham Grand is a fantastic venue as it is an old theater so you can sit with over 1200 people and watch one of the biggest sports screens I have ever seen!
