Healthy Pancreas Means Healthy Digestion

The first thing that comes to mind when we think of the digestive organs is the stomach, colon or liver. When patients are asked to point to where the pancreas is, I usually get a vague answer. Many times they point to an area that is very far away from where the pancreas is. Even if they don’t know its location, they know about the role of the pancreas in insulin production and diabetes. Also, many people express fear of pancreatic cancer, especially after the tragic death of Steve Jobs.

Unfortunately, people don’t know much about the pancreas. The pancreas is a small elongated gland with many vital tasks and functions. If you think pancreatic disease is relatively rare, look around you. Almost every family has members with a range of digestive symptoms that include fullness, heartburn, nausea, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, gas, stomach cramps and pain. A person with all or some of these symptoms may not even know that they are having problems related to a malfunctioning pancreas. Normal digestion depends on having the right amount of good pancreatic enzymes.

Let’s look at the gastrointestinal tract, a long tube with many chambers (stomach, small intestine, and large intestine) where digestion, absorption, and elimination occur. Almost all the food we eat consists of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Thanks to digestion, proteins are broken down into smaller particles called amino acids. Additionally, they can pass through the intestinal walls into the bloodstream so that our bodies can use the amino acids to build tissue. After we eat fats, they are broken down into fatty acids to provide our body’s energy needs. When we consume complex carbohydrates, they are broken down into simple sugars, which are the main sources of energy for our bodies. When we get excess carbohydrates, our body turns them into fat.

More than half of carbohydrates and proteins and 90% of fats are digested in the small intestine by the digestive enzymes of the pancreas. Low volume and low quality of pancreatic digestive enzymes will lead to indigestion. Imagine what would happen if you put everything you ate at dinner in a plastic bag and leave it in a warm room for 24 hours. Proteins will be rotten, fats will be rancid, microbes and yeast will ferment carbohydrates. The plastic bag will explode due to the smelly poisonous gas that will build up in it over a period of time.

There are only two ways our GI tract can get rid of poisons and gas from undigested food: up to the stomach and even the esophagus, or down to the colon. As the poison moves up, people experience gas, bloating, fullness, abdominal pain, and heartburn. When undigested toxic food is reduced – gas formation, flatulence, diarrhea and constipation occur.

Evidence and clinical studies show that low pancreatic function causes a variety of gastrointestinal disorders ranging from dyspepsia, IBS, GERD, ulcers to autoimmune diseases and cancer. To prove these facts, in my book I used more than 300 references from doctors and professors from all over the world. Decreased pancreatic function is the cornerstone of almost all gastrointestinal disorders and diseases. Fortunately, the pancreas has a huge capacity. And this means that people can survive if 90% of the pancreatic tissue is gone.

Unfortunately, the pancreas is recognized too late, when only 10% of the pancreatic tissue remains and the approach to treatment is limited. Therefore, any symptoms of indigestion should be considered as an alarm bell, and doctors should focus on the pancreas. There is still no simple and safe pharmaceutical solution to increase the production of pancreatic digestive enzymes. However, this can be done using a holistic natural approach.

The first thing to change is the diet. We need to stop and ask ourselves questions about what we eat and how we eat it. No living creature in the world, apart from us humans, eats macaroni and cheese, meat and dessert, ice cream, fruit and coffee at the same time. Nor do they eat processed “dead” food with no natural digestive enzymes. No one in the living world eats “on the go”, in front of the TV or even while driving. Last but not least, only humans use alcohol, drugs, medicine, and maintain environmental toxins. All this puts a huge strain on our pancreas; therefore, a healthy diet for the pancreas is the key to healthy digestion.

In healthy people, the pancreas produces 6-8 glasses of clear, alkaline pancreatic juice per day. Pancreatic juice includes water, minerals, bicarbonates, trace elements and a large number of digestive enzymes. The pancreas is the main enzyme-producing organ in the human body. It should be said that all pancreatic enzymes require an alkaline environment for their full function. When the pH changes to a neutral range, pancreatic enzymes stop working in the small intestine. Alkalinity for the pancreas is life, on the contrary, acidity is death.

How to increase the alkalinity of pancreatic juice? Naturally, this can be done with the help of an alkaline diet, mineral supplements, cellular magnesium-potassium or the use of healing mineral water. Doctors from different countries have been using these methods for hundreds of years. European doctors use either Karlovy Vary healing mineral water from local springs or water prepared from evaporated real Karlovy Vary spring salt at home. This water has been used for hundreds of years to treat various digestive disorders, especially pancreatic and liver/gallbladder problems.

Among other non-drug methods that can be used to improve pancreatic function, good results can be achieved with acupuncture. If your acupuncturist says you have a spleen deficiency, it means your digestion is weak. Insertion of needles into the spleen and stomach meridians improves digestion, reduces gastrointestinal symptoms and reduces abdominal pain.

Many medical articles and books confirm this fact. And I myself see the improvement of the condition of my patients every day. In China and Russia, the positive effect of acupuncture in acute pancreatitis has been confirmed by clinical studies.

People often use chamomile or mint herbal tea for indigestion and stomach fullness. In Chinese, European, Russian and Native American medicine, there are many individual herbs and herbal formulas for the treatment of diseases of the digestive system. Consistently, people have always used spices for taste, food preservation, medicinal purposes and prevention of food poisoning for thousands of years.

The pancreas needs a lot of water to produce 2 liters of pancreatic juice. Dehydration is bad for the pancreas and can cause pancreatitis.

Digestive (pancreatic) disorders are widespread in the modern world. Normal pancreatic function is essential for digestion, so increasing pancreatic function usually reduces indigestion. The goal is to find an experienced licensed medical professional before it’s too late.
