What is a Plant Whisperer?

All things are made of moving particles of energy, even our thoughts and emotions. The coffee mug on your desk looks and feels solid, but it isn’t solid. You and I are not solid. Everything in the universe is made of energy and everything is in motion.

There are people so sensitive to the energy of other living beings that they can lay their hands on a plant and detect not only the nuances of the plant’s energy field, but also the various natural chemicals within the plant that make up its living system. Images of the plant’s internal physical structure can appear in their mind. These people are able to sense the physical and emotional state of the plant and communicate with it.

I call this group of people the “Plant Whisperers” and claim proud membership in the group.

Many successful gardeners are Plant Whisperers and don’t even know it. They are so in tune with the vibrational energy of their plants that they can sense when something is wrong or about to go wrong in their garden, the same way plants communicate with each other. The successful gardener becomes a member of the plant community.

Science has proven that plants live in communities. When danger threatens, a caterpillar infestation for example, a warning is quickly passed through the plant’s root network or underground runners to other plants to increase their chemical and energy production to discourage pests. Science has also proven that after an insect chews on a plant leaf, the plant raises the level of chemicals in the leaf in an attempt to spoil its taste. When given the choice more often than not, the insect will move on to a new leaf.

However, how does a Plant Whisperer receive communication from a plant?

I can only speak for myself. When I communicate with a plant, I first feel the energy of its aura, the energy that flows through everything in the universe, as I do with a person or animal.

By meditating on the energy of the plant, I gradually move deeper into its energy until I begin to feel the consciousness of the plant. Plant awareness is particularly strong with trees.

After contacting the plant’s awareness, I quietly and respectfully introduce myself and offer the plant Reiki energy, an energy healing therapy. A plant will respond with the faintest voice imaginable that is heard in the back of my mind and carries a specific feeling, warmth, curiosity, gratitude, or, in the case of a certain scarred oak, suspicion (It has endured (for years people have been carving their initials into its trunk.)

I often get mental images of the inner workings of the plant at this point. In my mind’s eye, I follow the Reiki energy down to the root and through the layers of veins in the stem or trunk to the many leaves.
After the Reiki session, which can take quite a while because plants like to soak in the Reiki energy, I silently bid the plant a polite farewell and promise to visit later. Then I feel the power cords leave between us instead of cutting them myself.

A truly remarkable communication I experienced occurred between a potted heliotrope I salvaged from the trash can at a local garden nursery and me.

When I found Heliotropin, it was a miserable sight with its single stem and few leaves. I took it home, transplanted it into a bigger pot, watered it well and then soaked it with Reiki energy. After that, I placed her pot on a windowsill and turned my attention to my laptop.

As I wrote, I gradually became aware of a feeling of gratitude and love. I was alone in the room except my pigeon, and she was asleep. Maybe my late mother was visiting again. Yet why would my mother’s spirit feel grateful to me? I couldn’t feel him or any other breath in the room, so I shook my head and went back to writing.

The feeling of gratitude and love became great. It surrounded me. Confused, I glanced around. My gaze fell on Heliotrope. Could the nearly comatose plant I saved know?

I placed my right hand gently on the stem of the plant. A smile bloomed on my face as a soft, warm feeling of love poured into me. Heliotrope was happy and grateful to me for saving her. I told him I expected flowers in a relationship. The plant surrendered a few weeks later when it produced fragrant blue flowers.

Can one become a fully conscious Plant Whisperer? I believe so, but how long it takes each person to achieve communication with our green brothers will depend on how open minded and grounded each person is. A person’s success will also depend on their willingness to meditate, to find the inner still point and a great deal of patience. It may take years for person A to achieve communication with a factory, while person B may take only a few days or weeks. Having a strong sense of intuition is an invaluable step towards communicating clearly with plants.

Each person will also need to reevaluate how he or she thinks about the plant world. You cannot hide your true emotions or intentions from a plant. A plant will sense the truth in your energy field. If you do not respect plants as living beings, then plants will not communicate with you. Instead, they will go into a defensive state, like the poor scarred oak.

Some people talk to animals, while others talk to the wise plant kingdom. We have a lot to learn from the plant world! All you have to do is listen.
