His full name is Robert Emmanuel Pires. He was born on October 29, 1973 in Reims. Pires is of Portuguese and Spanish descent. His playing position on the pitch is as a winger/attacking midfielder. Pires can play all over midfield or in one place to support the striker(s) although he usually takes the role on the left wing. He is a French footballer who currently plays for the Spanish club Villarreal.
At club level, he experienced playing for top clubs such as Metz in 1992-1998, Marseille in 1998-2000, Arsenal in 2000-2006 and Villarreal in 2006 -.
He was a member of France’s 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 winning team. He had to miss the 2002 World Cup due to an injury that continued playing for Arsenal. Pires played in the 1996 Olympics and Euro 2004 as well. Pires amassed 79 appearances for his national team and scored 14 goals. At the 2001 Confederations Cup Pires also won the Ballon d’Or and Golden Boot awards in Korea/Japan.
