2010 World Cup Soccer Tournament
The highly anticipated and anticipated sporting event of the year, World Cup 2010 in football the tournament finally kicked off on 11 June 2010 at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The FIFA World Cup tournament takes place once every 4 years and is a lengthy bidding and qualification process for participating countries and respective teams. Italy won the last world championship that was held in Germany.

The qualifying draw for the 2010 World Cup was held in Durban, South Africa in November 2009. The qualified teams are drawn in 8 groups as shown below:
– Group A: South Africa, Mexico, Uruguay, France
– Group B: Republic of Korea, Argentina, Nigeria, Greece
– Group C: USA, England, Slovenia, Algeria
– Group D: Germany, Australia, Serbia, Ghana
– Group E: Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, Cameroon
– Group F: Italy, Paraguay, New Zealand, Slovakia
– Group G: Brazil, Korea DPR, Cote d’Ivoire, Portugal
– Group H: Spain, Switzerland, Honduras, Chile
The teams within each group will play each other. Two teams from the qualifying group, with the highest points, will advance to the group of 16 that will have to compete against each other to advance to the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
The football matches will take place in various cities in South Africa and 10 specific venues have been chosen. Below is a list of them all stadiums and cities:

4. Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg

10. Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Pretoria
Zakum, is the official mascot for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, an anthropomorphized leopard with green hair. Its name comes from “ZA”, the international abbreviation for South Africa, and “kumi”, a word that means “ten” in various African languages.
Jabulani is the name of the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer match ball made by Adidas, meaning “bringing joy to all” in isiZulu. The 11 different colors on the ball represent the 11 official languages of South Africa, the 11 different South African communities that exist across the country and the 11 players on the pitch.
