Chelsea Merciless Against Arsenal FC

Chelsea FC again at the weekend proved their superiority over their counterpart Arsenal FC; thanks to a brace from their talisman, Didier Drogba. The game was labeled a grudge match by Arsenal fans after they lost 0-3 at home to us in the first round of the season.

Arsenal provoked us last season by beating us 2-1 in the first round of the season at Stamford Bridge thanks to 2 excellent goals from Fabregas. Since then they have lost 3 games in a row against us – losing 1-4 at the Emirates Stadium in the second half of last season, 0-3 again in the first half of this season and losing 0-2 yesterday. We beat them home and away this season.

The game had started on a good note for them, with the boys attacking seriously and showing some flair. They had revenge at the back of their minds to prove to the world that losing to us in the first half was a mistake. But before the 10th minute of the first half, the pendulum of victory is already swinging in our direction; Didier Drogba had scored the first goal thus putting the Arsenal players under great pressure. The first half ended with 1 goal in our favour, but the second half saw more fiery work from the visiting team.

Our goalkeeper Petr Cech showed that he has a nut to crack; rounded the post making it virtually impossible for Arsene Wenger’s men to score. The more they tried to equalize, the more the game slipped away. And before anyone could say Jack Robinson, Didier Drogba had added a second goal for Chelsea to seal the win. Arsenal were lucky that his free-kick hit the crossbar, which would have made it a hat trick for Drogba. The free-kick was taken professionally and sure enough the Arsenal goal stayed rooted to the ground as I saw the ball bounce off the crossbar.

With his performance at the weekend, Drogba showed we missed him when he was away on national duty during the Nations Cup tour in Angola. Wayne Rooney gave him a gap in the goalscoring list due to his days away from the league, but he has announced his comeback by scoring in his last 2 games. He can catch up again and maybe overtake Rooney for the top goalscorer award. Chelsea are indeed making remarkable progress in terms of this year’s Premier League title race; and now that they are playing more compact football, I believe they can win the league again and stop Manchester United from taking the title for the fourth time in a row.
