Who Will Win the FA Premier League in 2011
Here are some predictions for the top five Premier League places and why, in the order they will finish. Each of the teams made some changes, as they do every season, and I assess the impact of new recruits and players who have left the club.
1 – Manchester United
Despite losing to Chelsea in the last game of the season, Man United have to be favorites again this season. With the addition of proven goalscorer Javier Hernandez and Fulham defender Chris Smalling, they will win the league this time around. Alex Ferguson will be doubly keen to see him do well, especially with his reign coming to an end.
Transfer rumours: Joe Cole, Karim Benzema, Wesley Sneijder, Luis Suarez, Jack Rodwell, James Milner
2 – Manchester City
City are again expected to do well. They lost Champions League football in almost the last game, but they added some experienced quality players who know how to win. Mancini needs to make new and old players a winning unit this season and give them faith. The recent acquisition of David Silva will give them some much needed firepower up front and make them a very tight bet.
Transfer rumours: Fernando Torres, Edin Dzeko, James Milner, Joe Cole, Zlatan Ibrahimovic
3 – Chelsea
Carlo Ancelotti has proven to be a good manager, winning both the Premier League and the FA Cup in his first season, although with the arrival of Yossi Benayoun from Liverpool to replace fan favorite Joe Cole and the departures of Ballack and Beletti, he is struggling to get the same level from this team. Expect junior players to come into the fold this season. Chelsea also seem to be keen on Fernando Torres, who would be an interesting signing as he has struggled to produce his best form in this league and has only done well in the odd game.
Transfer rumours: Fernando Torres, Neven Subotic, Kaká, Franck Ribery, Sergio Aguero, James Milner
4 – Arsenal
Arsenal again had an indifferent season by their standards, doing well against weaker teams but struggling against the big boys. They have brought in several French players, one of whom is a center to replace William Gallas and Sol Campbell. Expect Arsenal to be in the crosshairs at the end of the season, Arsene Wenger knows what it takes to play despite recent turmoil, it will be tough again. Wenger is a master at bringing youth into the team and expect the same this season.
Transfer rumours: Joe Hart, Hugo Rodellego, Joe Cole, Felipe Melo de Carvalho, Mark Schwarzer, Gary Cahill
5 – Tottenham
Spurs have done remarkably well to make it to the Champions League final as they have been the surprise package in the league. However, during this period, teams will know exactly what to expect from them and their journey to the top of the league will be much more difficult this season. Harry Redknapp has a reputation as a player’s wheel dealer but there has been no activity so far this transfer window, although rumors of Joe Cole joining on a free transfer persist.
Transfer rumours: Steven Peinaar, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Joe Cole, Connor Wickham, Craig Bellamy, Diego Forlan
Other teams who could make inroads are Everton, Aston Villa and Liverpool. I really expect Manchester City to push the other top teams this season and Mancini will have a season under his belt. I’m also happy to see them doing well, making the Premier League a bit more competitive.
